Minnow Canyon is another highly underrated technical canyon, a tributary of Fish Creek up in the Superstition Mountains near Phoenix Arizona. It doesn’t really ever turn into a slot canyon but has some very unique boulder tunnels that are cooler in my opinion. They are like little route finding puzzles as you must pick your way thru the boulder madness. So cool and this is a canyon that is often overlooked. The approach is an easy one as well with a nice trail that takes you all the way to the drop in point. As with any other desert route there are lots of cactus, but i do remember getting particularly owned by several of them on this route. The finale of the canyon ends in a nice big rappel that is also a popular climbing spot so be prepared for others coming up the wall. Minnow Canyon shortly joins up with Fish Creek and from here is a short stroll back to the bridge and highway. You either need a car shuttle for this loop or allow for some extra time to walk the highway or easier yet – hitch a short ride up the hill.
