Kaiwilahilahi Creek

With 4 drops up to 80 feet, this is a very nice route that can be completed at a casual pace.  Though the route initially appears to be quite long compared to others in the area, the terrain in the creek itself consists more of solid bedrock than loose and slippery rocks, which are common along the Hamakua Coast and can hinder speed of travel down these canyons significantly.  On our descent, which was in a dry spell, the flow was quite low and the day was incredibly sunny.  The photos of this route truly do not do this canyon justice and as a result will likely not be a commonly done route.  It is, however, a beautiful route that will surprise even experienced adventurers.  Both the drop in and take outs are along county roads.  The final plunge into the ocean makes for a dizzying view and a great place to end the day.
