Grand Canyon (Lower)

diamond down

This is a beautiful 5 day run that is often done as an extension to a full Grand Canyon run.  This is commonly referred to as Diamond Down since it the put in is at Diamond Creek, with a takeout at Pearce Ferry.  The photos here are from before the ramp at Pearce Ferry was built, thus we ended up taking out at Lake Mead and running Pearce Ferry Rapid and a few others below it.  Depending on flow and conditions of Lake Mead, Pearce Ferry Rapid might not be there at all, and you may be technically taking out on the lake.  The biggest rapid on this stretch is Killer Fang Falls at mile 232.  Besides that, this route is quite straightforwards with several other fun rapids and some great side hike and beautiful camps.  It has similar scenery to its famed brother up stream but in a manageable timeframe and a much easier permit to get.
