Casner Cabin Draw

casner cabin draw

Casner Cabin Draw is a short but pleasant wilderness route into the upper West Fork of Oak Creek.  Though not technically challenging, it does have some very nice sections of narrows and is a great beginner canyon or a nice way to spend the day with less experienced friends.  There are a few short drops and some nice spots.  There are a few drops that will require rappelling, albeit no more than 25 feet.  The approach is a typical brushy route, and depending on the current water levels you will be faced with a wade or swim or two.  Once you reach the West Fork, head upstream  Make sure to take the right fork at a junction with another tributary, this is not incredibly obvious.  Most of the route back to Woody Mountain Road is uneventful, however the West Fork does enter a nice, if short section of sandstone narrows for a few hundred feet.  Before long you reach the road, from here either jump in your car or take a stroll back to your car at the Casner Cabin Draw Trailhead.
