Haole Creek - May 12, 2013

Too...much...water...
  • Kolekole Creek in raging mode. Lots of water down here.
  • Joe on the drop in to our route. It is steep but beautiful.
  • With no previous knowledge on any of the routes thus far in Hawaii, we gotta get creative. An old National Geographic book from the 80s gives us a glimpse into our route.
  • Drop 1, a 90 foot beauty.
  • Anchor for drop 2. The neon green webbing blends in surprisingly well in Hawaii.
  • Drop 2, and a glimpse down canyon.
  • Tyler on the same drop.
  • Rain forest in full effect today.
  • Drop 3, 120 feet.
  • Bottom of drop 3.
  • Tyler pulling the rope.
  • Pondering all the damn water I suppose.
  • Pushing to the confluence with Kolekole Creek.
  • We find Kolekole Creek in flood stage. Scary stuff. We push upstream to our exit point but check out a couple more things first.
  • So. Much. Water. Kahuna Falls from a rarely seen angle, raging it up.
  • Looking up Kolekole Creek, a beautiful 40 foot plunge going off. The spray and mist off this waterfall gives this photo a surreal look.
  • Joe walking on water.
  • Taking our route up the ridge back to Kahuna Falls lookout point. This is a steep, rough, brutal route which gains elevation fast.
  • Self shot. I call this one: Agony.
  • Nearing the top the terrain finally levels off.
